Over the years Eminem has racked up a large number of free verses, both on and off the radio. While the majority of these Eminem verses are simply his normal album verses, rapped over mainstream instrumental beats before the albums launched, they are still very much an integral part of Eminem's rap history. In addition to performing over the radio many times in the past, he also entered into a large number of rap battles, doing quite well in many of the competitions. Most notably, he made it to the later rounds of the 1997 Scribble Jam MC Battle held in Cincinnati, OH before finally being defeated by rival Chicago rapper Rhymefest. It was later on in the night when Eminem was brought back to face MC Juice & Dos One in the finals, due to a no show from Rhymefest. Although he did well, Eminem fell short on that night and MC Juice was the better man, going on to become the 1997 Scribble Jam MC battle champion.
Before becoming signed and turning into one of the most successful rappers ever, Eminem would appear on many radio shows to display his lyrical wit and raw aggression. Over the years he would wind up performing along side some of the greatest lyricists in hip-hop history, e.g., The Notorious B.I.G., Dilated Peoples, Akineyle and many more. It was by doing these radio verses that he was discovered by Dr. Dre and signed shortly after to Dr. Dre's new record label, Aftermath Records. And obviously soon after that he blew up to an enormous height and has reigned supreme ever since.
Some of Eminem's most unique and off kilter material can be found in these off the head verses. Mixing hilarious imagery with clever and intricate rhyme patterns, these rhymes would be soon be regarded by many as certified classics, specifically his Wake Up Show appearances which have yet to be topped.
